Our Central Administration is situated at Tong Hall,
approximately half-way between Leeds and Bradford
and less than 10 minutes drive from the M62.

Tong Hall, which with an earlier building destroyed by fire towards the end of the 17th Century, was for over 300 years the seat of the Tempest family has seen much military history and political intrigue since their progenitor, Sir Richard Tempest fought for Henry VIII against the Scots at Flodden in 1513 and later that year in France, was knighted by the king at Touraine. Unfortunately he was foolish enough to demonstrate against the Reformation and managed to avoid the fate of being Hanged, Drawn and Quartered suffered by his brother Nicholas, only by dying in the Fleet Prison in 1537.

In 1569 Henry Tempest narrowly managed to escape execution as a sympathiser of Mary Queen of Scots’
Catholic cause whilst a century later the Tempest
colours were firmly nailed to the Protestant mast of
Oliver Cromwell, with the battle of Adwalton Moor being fought in June 1643 on land adjacent to the Tong Hall Estate. History records that the Roundheads lost that battle but went on to win the war.

Today, the financial battles which take place from time to time at the Hall, tend to be somewhat less physical than those in which our predecessors participated. Posterity may decide in the final analysis whether the sword proved mightier than the pen.
